Tips to Help You Build an Effective Recruitment Plan

A famous person once said, “Good things come to those who wait.” Well, not when it comes to recruitment! Those who don’t have a recruitment strategy in place will end up hurting their companies in the long run.  A recent study conducted by Bountyjobs.com shows that over 10,000 Boomers (those born between 1946 and 1964) will hit 65 and retire daily from now until 2029. The current workforce, however, is not growing at the same rate, which is causing a lot of companies to start looking at alternative methods in their recruitment strategy. Gone are the days when employees come to you in large numbers, with unemployment at all time lows it is up to YOU to go out and build a talent pipeline for your company. Here are a few tips that can help:

Set Up a Recruitment Budget

I know what you are thinking “We don’t have the extra money in our budget for this!” but I can assure you that if you don’t find money in your budget by being proactive, it will hurt you in the long run. According to SHRM, it can take up to 42 days to fill a position at an estimated cost of 4-7 thousand dollars per employee position you are trying to fill. That is a lot of time and money! If you are proactive and put in place recruitment costs into your budget this amount along with the time it takes to fill a position will drastically decrease.

Change Your Recruitment Mindset

Gone are the days where one person does everything. Now companies are looking into team selling or job shares to get projects completed for clients. For instance, you may have one person in charge of setting up appointments, one person in charge of talking about your products to the client, and one person who works behind the scenes doing research and building the presentations. When reviewing candidate profiles think about the many ways that candidate can add value to your organization. They may possess a skill that a member of your team lacks that could increase your profits for your department.

Be Creative In Your Search Methods

We all know the usual ways to find talent, but with unemployment at all time lows, it is essential to find alternative methods to build your pipeline.  Here at Media Staffing Network, we have found that looking outside media is where the sales teams of tomorrow reside. Places such as the local Chamber of Commerce, Hotels, Restaurants, telemarketing firms, and department stores have dynamic sales teams that have talent waiting for a change of pace, a place where they can shine. Your organization could be that place! So the next time you go out with friends we ask that you pay close attention to everyone around you; your next hire could be right in front of your eyes.
