DESCRIPTION
WWJ Newsradio 950 in Detroit is looking for a full-time producer to join our award-winning newsroom. This job is fast-paced and includes building newscasts in the midday, Monday thru Friday. The ideal candidate is a news junkie, knows Detroit and Michigan, is organized, can find news stories and excels with breaking news.
JOB EXPERIENCE
What You'll Do:
- Edit and produce newscasts (including but not limited to selecting, editing and/or writing news content)
- Manage the flow of news and information
- Edit audio for broadcast and digital assets
- Collaborate with colleagues about news coverage (i.e. propose and contribute to daily and long-term coverage plans)
- Research and arrange compelling live and pre-recorded interviews
- Follow-up and call on news tips and breaking stories, conduct interviews with officials and newsmakers
- Promote news coverage on social media
- Protect the station’s FCC license
- Other duties as required by management
- While this is mainly a Monday-Friday shift, there may be weekend and early morning work
- Required to join SAG-AFTRA
REQUIREMENTS

Required & Preferred:
- Experience in a newsroom setting
- Ability to interpret and simplify complex information, copy
- Ability to update copy and ad-lib in a moments notice
- Write conversational, engaging news stories
- Knowledgeable and up-to-date with local and national trends and/or specialized
- knowledge of subjects/events related to on-air topics/stories
- Excellent writing and editing skills
- Ability to plan, organize and multi task in a fast-paced environment
- Experience and proficiency interviewing newsmakers
- Knowledge of proper grammar and usage
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment
- Proficient in media production and broadcast systems
- Ability to work flexible and irregular hours including holidays
- Protect the station’s FCC license
