DESCRIPTION
KTVB-TV is looking for a Supervisor of Technology to join our team. Position reports to the Director of Tech-Ops and will assist in oversight and management of KTVB/KTFT technical operations at studio and transmitter facilities. Responsibilities include training and management of team members assigned to maintenance of broadcast equipment, network infrastructure, information technology, transmission systems and desktop support. Assist the Director of Tech-Ops with planning, organizing and executing capital projects. Provide technical guidance and leadership to news, sales, marketing, community service and production.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee routine checks and maintenance of KTVB/KTFT transmitters, translators and airpath equipment including microwave systems and backup generators.
- Provide oversight of KTVB/KTFT broadcast signals including closed captioning, EAS messages and FCC documentation for quality control and compliance.
- Manage, train and mentor the tech staff responsible for performing maintenance on broadcast equipment, studio and newscast production systems, field gear, desktops, laptops and servers.
- Monitor KTVB helpdesk requests in Service Now and assign tickets to tech staff as needed. Ensure tickets are prioritized, addressed and resolved in a timely manner.
- Assist TEGNA IT with distribution of software updates and troubleshooting of computers and server systems at KTVB. Help monitor for security issues involving KTVB network and computing systems.
- Collaborate with Director of Tech-Ops on hiring, training and scheduling employees in tech-ops. Assist with reviewing applications, conducting interviews and making final hiring decisions.
- Help supervise on-air and master control operations involving the TEGNA Stream Center (TSC) and Crispin automation systems. Communicate with the TSC and help coordinate KTVB responsibilities for content preparation, discrepancies and local administration of program crawls.
- Perform the responsibilities of crew chief on remote productions and special projects involving news, marketing and tech-ops staff. Help coordinate arrangements for multicamera remotes involving the production truck, TVU packs and ENG/SNG vehicles.
- Assist in planning, purchasing and execution of capital projects. Help research and gather technical information and proposals necessary for capital funding.
- Help plan, rehearse and maintain KTVB backup systems and processes for cyber/disaster recovery. Perform routine cyber/DR compliance checks, testing and reporting as assigned.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of experience and education. Minimum of five years in broadcast engineering, operations and information technology.
- Experience as hands-on engineer responsible for maintaining transmitters, microwave systems, studio and field equipment, video production systems and IP based news gathering technologies.
- Experience in the deployment and servicing of desktops, laptops, network equipment, servers and monitoring systems.
- Strong leadership, communication and training skills with the ability to effectively interact with all levels of management and non-technical end users.
- Must be a self-starter and team player. Able to perform well under pressure and meet deadlines. Focused on customer service and the demands of gathering news and strict broadcast schedules.
- Ability to lift heavy equipment, climb ladders and work on elevated surfaces, pull and install cabling, use hand and power tools and perform a variety of physical tasks.
- Mobility and flexibility are essential
- Willing to travel to remote transmitter and translator sites in all weather conditions. Site visits often require driving 4X4 vehicles including an ATV equipped with snow tracks.
- Available to work various days and hours, including weekends, overnights and holidays as needed.
