About KYOU:
KYOU is the FOX and NBC affiliate in Southeastern Iowa and Northeastern Missouri with its main office in Ottumwa, Iowa. The station produces a newscast each weeknight that airs on Fox and NBC and maintains KYOUTV.com and related digital platforms. KYOU's dedicated staff serves the area of Southeastern Iowa and Northeastern Missouri region. In addition to FOX 15.1 NBC 15.2, and The CW 15.4. KYOU brings local weather forecasts, news on Iowa Tonight, and much more. KYOU is also part of Gray Digital Media (GDM), which offers high-quality and targeted digital services, both locally and in all 50 states.
Job Summary/Description:
KYOU is seeking a digital content creator to focus on creating articles and videos focused primarily on growing our digital platform audience. This position is meant to innovate reporting for the station to prioritize content creation for a digital audience first. This position includes on-camera work for social videos as well as appearances in TV newscasts.
Duties/Responsibilities include, but not limited to:
– Seek out and create content primarily for digital platforms first
– Write compelling news articles for website
– Shoot and edit video for digital and social platforms
– Present information on camera for both digital and TV news platforms
– Repurpose digital content as needed to support TV newscast platform
– Practice responsible journalism: developing sources in community, researching and fact checking information for publication
– Other duties as needed to support newsroom operations and functions
Qualifications/Requirements:
– Experience and/or training in journalism and newsroom practices
– Strong writing and grammar skills
– Knowledgeable of social media platforms
– Experience shooting and editing video in nonlinear systems
– Previous on-air news experience a plus
– Demonstrated success in creating engaging digital content a plus
