KPRC 2, the Graham Media Group-owned NBC station in Houston, is in the midst of a LOCAL NEWS TRANSFORMATION, and we’re looking for journalists who want to join us in the adventure!

We are searching for a creative, self-motivated Planning Producer to join our award-winning team and help us build the next generation of content for broadcast, streaming, and mobile audiences. This is an opportunity to develop and produce content you’d actually watch – taking content and distribution to the next level in order to serve and connect our audiences more intentionally.
KPRC 2 is a state-of-the-art media hub where you’ll have all the latest tools and technology at your fingertips. You’ll be surrounded by an experienced team of reporters, photojournalists, anchors, producers, and news managers across platforms to help ensure your success. We ask you to bring your passion for news, dedication to high-quality journalism, active participation in the editorial process, and an unlimited supply of original ideas.
What’s in it for you? A company where Integrity, Teamwork, Innovation, and Passion are at the core of who we are and what we value. KPRC is dedicated to employee development and growth, diversity and inclusion, a positive work environment, and a culture that rewards and encourages innovation. KPRC 2 and Graham Media believe each employee contributes significantly to our success, and that contribution shouldn’t be limited by the assigned responsibilities outlined in a job description. This job description is designed to outline primary duties without limiting the employee or the organization to specific silos. We always look for growth opportunities for our team, and we encourage our employees to look for additional ways to contribute to KPRC’s overall growth and success.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Planning day-to-day coverage on all KPRC platforms, including television, digital, mobile, and social media
  • Identify content opportunities to advance stories to the next day’s morning newscast or streaming shows; format those segments for line producers to utilize in their shows (broadcast and/or streaming shows)
  • Responding quickly to breaking news & weather, monitoring social media sources and relevant websites, and ensuring our news content is fresh, accurate, and up-to-date
  • Setting up news stories and live interviews for broadcasts or streaming; may be called upon to conduct interviews in person or on digital platforms (Zoom, phone, etc.)
  • Working with the leadership team in planning for major news, special events, election coverage, hurricane & severe weather coverage
  • Working with our digital team to direct coverage of breaking news and major stories on all KPRC 2 platforms

  • 1-3 years of experience in local broadcast or streaming news production
  • Solid news judgment and critical thinking skills to identify the community impact of a story and come up with creative ways we can produce that story in an authentic, relatable, and enjoyable way
  • Strong writing skills for both broadcast and digital platforms (candidate will take a writing test)
  • Organized, calm under pressure, able to meet deadlines and shift gears amid shifting priorities
  • Willingness to work flexible hours that could include nights, mornings, weekends, or holidays
  • College degree in journalism or broadcasting preferred
