CBS 8 San Diego (KFMB-TV), a TEGNA-owned CBS affiliate, is looking for a highly skilled and creative Photojournalist to join our team. We’re searching for a visual storyteller who is passionate about crafting compelling and engaging content across all platforms—TV, digital, and social. Whether you're working independently or with a reporter, you should be driven to find powerful visuals and bring stories to life with impact and originality.
Our ideal candidate thrives in fast-paced environments, stays calm under pressure, and is fluent in the latest tools, techniques, and trends in video journalism. We’re looking for someone who’s as comfortable going live from breaking news scenes as they are editing a feature story with depth and nuance.
Responsibilities:
- Capture video and audio elements to produce dynamic and engaging stories—news, sports, features, and longer-form content—on deadline.
- Operate ENG trucks and/or IP-based live transmission units (e.g., TVU or Dejero) when assigned.
- Cover stories solo or with a reporter, depending on assignment.
- Participate in daily editorial meetings and pitch creative story ideas.
- Use innovative production techniques—including viewer content, motion graphics, and mobile-first approaches—to enhance storytelling across platforms.
- Temporary position from June 30, 2025 – October 15, 2025
Requirements:
- BA/BS in journalism, communications, or related field preferred (or equivalent work experience).
- 3–5 years of professional experience in a TV newsroom or similar setting.
- Strong non-linear editing skills (EDIUS knowledge preferred).
- Exceptional news judgment, writing, and photojournalism skills.
- Proven ability to generate compelling, content-driven live shots.
- Familiarity with content management systems and digital publishing workflows.
- Must be flexible, reliable, and open to working varied shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Able to lift up to 40 lbs. (occasionally up to 80 lbs.) with or without accommodation.
- Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record required; ability to safely operate news vehicles to and from assignment locations.
