KHOU-TV, the TEGNA-owned CBS affiliate in Houston, TX, has an opening for a skilled and creative Special Projects Photojournalist. We are seeking an energetic and artistic professional who is passionate about the craft of visual storytelling. This role requires excellence across both broadcast and digital platforms, with a focus on special projects, investigative stories, and impactful journalism.
Responsibilities:
• Capture and edit video and audio elements to produce compelling, impactful stories using the latest editing and photography tools.
• Collaborate with reporters, producers, and other photojournalists to create high-quality news packages and specials.
• Edit for multiple platforms, including digital and social media, with a strong emphasis on creative and visually engaging content.
• Produce dynamic, content-driven live shots, often in fast-paced or breaking news environments.
• Operate and maintain news vehicles, bonded cellular transmission equipment, and photography equipment.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Proven experience shooting and editing special projects, investigative reports, and news documentaries.
• A clear understanding of professional journalism principles, ethics, and newsroom workflows.
• Active membership in NPPA (National Press Photographers Association) is highly desirable.
Requirements:
• A college degree or equivalent experience, with at least three years as a TV photojournalist and news editor.
• Proficiency in Sony PXW-X400 cameras or similar systems and associated support equipment.
• Expertise in non-linear editing software (Adobe Premiere CC, After Effects, and Photoshop are a plus).
• Ability to lift and carry 40 lbs., and occasionally up to 80 lbs., of equipment.
• A valid driver’s license and the ability to travel, including by commercial airlines, as assignments require.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask and meet deadlines.
Work Environment:
• Includes outdoor assignments and varied environmental conditions.
• Involves medium physical demands such as standing for prolonged periods, bending, and lifting.
