Job Summary/Description:
The News Producer crafts compelling newscasts and executes them from the control room on a daily basis. This person develops the day-to-day on-air look of their newscast and works together as a team with Anchors, Reporters, and other crew members to help attract the largest available audience.
Duties/Responsibilities include (but not limited to):
– Produce daily newscast
– Conceptualize newscast rundown
– Collaborate with the Executive Producer, field crews, and assignment desk to determine the content of the newscast
– Write scripts
– Research stories
– Pitch story ideas
– Participate in editorial meetings
– Preview material before air
– Work with reporters and directors on innovative production elements
– Incorporate and coordinate breaking news
– Work to constantly improve and evolve the look and execution of newscasts
– Execute the show from the control room
– Meet all show timing requirements
Qualifications/Requirements:
– Bachelor's Degree in Broadcast Journalism, Communications, or a related field, or equivalent training and/or experience
– Knowledge of TV News producing tools a plus (i.e. iNews, Avid)
– Ability to work a flexible schedule and work as a member of a team
– Must be results-oriented
– Ability to work in a creative, fast-paced environment
– Ability to make quick decisions without losing composure
