About KOTA/KEVN:
KOTA and KEVN are the ABC and FOX affiliates in Rapid City at the base of the beautiful Black Hills. KOTA and KEVN are the market leaders for local news, sports, and weather with a state-of-the-art facility. Both stations cover the Black Hills of South Dakota as well as parts of eastern Wyoming. Our team produces eight daily newscasts Monday through Friday and six newscasts on the weekends.
KOTA & KEVN are located in Rapid City, SD television DMA Market 170, a community of approximately 100,000 television HH.

Job Summary/Description:
KOTA Territory News is looking for a full-time producer. Come work in our state-of-the-art studio in the beautiful Black Hills! Our ideal candidate is a leader with solid news judgment, intelligence, and energy, plus a creative vision for what it takes to produce engaging newscasts.
The producer creates the newscast rundown, writes stories, builds graphics, coordinates with field crews, and communicates with everyone involved in the daily newscast.
Excellent written and oral communication skills are a must. Solid news judgment and the ability to multi-task are essential. You should be calm under pressure. The ideal candidate would be social media and tech-savvy. You must be a team player with a great attitude and be available to work various schedules as needed.
Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
– Preview news material before airing. Writes, edits, and research show elements. Prepares interview segments.
– Coordinates breaking stories. Selects graphics and pre-production elements. Proofreads scripts. Coordinates breaking news and executes show in the control room. Edits video as necessary.
– Collaborates with executive producer, reporters, assignment desk, and photographers to determine the content of broadcasts. Participates in story planning meetings.
– Times the show while on air; meets all requirements of commercial content and off-times.
– Conceptualizes innovative graphic and pre-production elements. Monitors and works to constantly improve and evolve the look and execution of newscasts.
– Coordinates with the creative services department to develop effective promotions for upcoming shows, newscasts, and events.
– Assists the assignment desk and edits as necessary.
Qualifications/Requirements:
– BA in Journalism or a related field
– Must be versed in broadcast and digital writing styles
– Must possess an advanced understanding of newscast presentation
– Must possess excellent writing and graphics skills with the ability to provide an interesting and substantive product
– Must be results-oriented
– Ability to focus on coordination of daily and long-range segments from first contact to on-air products
– Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills
– Ability to make quick decisions without losing composure
