DESCRIPTION
KGET in Bakersfield needs a versatile journalist whose primary assignment is as a photographer and fact-gatherer-but who has the ability to be on air (and may have that as an ambition). The successful candidate must have excellent news judgment, street smarts and a keen understanding of digital and social media. Must be willing to work any shift on any day of the week and on nights and weekends. He or she must be willing to work in all conditions. The candidate we will choose will be an intelligent, goal driven, insatiably curious photographer/reporter who is able to ask tough questions of newsmakers or, if conditions require, sensitively seek comment from a crime victim. She or he must be able to shoot video for television or the web and post on all platforms from the field. This is not primarily an on-camera job. This job is different from the MMJ position.This job is principally that of a photojournalist. But someone hired for this job would be in a position to be on-air occasionally and would be able to demonstrate his or her ability to move to an on-air position when on becomes available. JOB EXPERIENCE
Produce content for multiple platforms, including TV, internet, mobile, etc.
Work with management to enterprise and develop stories daily.
Demonstrate compelling storytelling using dynamic live shots and stand-ups,creative graphics, and use of digital and social media platforms.
Organize material, determine angle or emphasis, and write story according to prescribed editorial style and format standards.
Gather and verify information regarding stories through interview, observation and research.
Other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's Degree
Journalism required (equivalent years of experience may substitute for education) + (3) three years experience as a multi-platinum journalist.
Camera and camera equipment
Knowledge of broadcast quality camera equipment
Conflict management
Detail oriented
Demonstrate editorial judgment using knowledge of journalism ethics and libel laws
Strong on-air reporting, writing, and technical skills.
