Job Summary/Description:
WLOX is looking for an experienced journalist to join our team as a Weekend Anchor/Reporter. We're looking for a newsroom leader who is energized by breaking news, developing sources, and cultivating community relationships in South Mississippi.
Duties/Responsibilities include (but not limited to):
– Anchor evening newscasts on Saturdays and Sundays
– Conduct live interviews and anchor continuous coverage
– Help evaluate leads and tips in order to develop story ideas
– Contribute stories to all platforms – streaming, website, and social media
– Shoot, edit & write as a reporter
– Cover news in the field when necessary
– Represent the station in the community and for various promotional events
Qualifications/Requirements:
– Must be able to work quickly, meet deadlines, multi-task, and show composure, especially during high-pressure breaking news situations
– Demonstrate leadership skills to help guide coverage for weekend news teams
– Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
– This position requires exceptional news judgment, a strong work ethic, and a desire to work with a team
– College degree or equivalent job experience in a journalism-related field is preferred
– MVR check required
