DESCRIPTION

WMBD (CBS)/WYZZ (FOX through an outsourcing agreement with Cunningham Broadcasting, Inc.) is looking for our next Weekday Morning Meteorologist.

Your Local Weather Authority is equipped with not only the best storytelling technology in the market with Baron Lynx and VIPIR radar, but you’ll be also working alongside a Chief with a passion to develop a daily forecast that stands out as the leader.

This is not just a weather reporting role. Ideal candidates have a strong, vibrant personality, with a drive to deliver accurate and compelling forecasts to our viewers. The top candidate will be eager to develop opportunities to interact with our team on WMBD This Morning and Good Day Central Illinois.

 


JOB EXPERIENCE

What you’ll do:

  • Produce and present weather/weather related news reports for all platforms.
  • Ensure that all weather/news content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality.
  • Write and deliver weather in a clear, concise manner that builds our Your Local Weather Authority brand with viewers.
  • Assist in writing, copy editing, researching, and coordinating weather programming and other content.
  • Have a drive to respond to breaking and/or severe weather events as required.
  • Collaborate with the rest of the weather team to develop comprehensive weather coverage.
  • Participate in promotional activities including public appearances.
  • Keep our website CIProud.com, as well as social media up to date with the local forecast each day.
  • Interact with viewers on social media.

 


REQUIREMENTS

What you’ll bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Meteorology, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience.
  • Entry level to 2 years’ experience in weather presentation preferred.
  • Proficiency with Baron’s weather systems is helpful but not required.
  • Strong understanding of Meteorology/ able to make a weather forecast separate from the National Weather Service.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Preference to candidates with experience shooting video and non-linear editing. Ability to write story from beginning to end.  Knowledge of AP ENPS helpful.

Physical Demands:
The Meteorologist must be able to sit, conduct telephone conversations, use electronic mail, write letters and memos, conduct face-to-face discussions with individuals or groups, make decisions without supervision, make decisions that impact the results of co-workers, work near others, work outdoors occasionally in all weather conditions, and work indoors in environmentally controlled conditions. In addition, the Meteorologist must be able to lift, set up and operate equipment weighing up to 25 pounds, and be able to handle, control or feel objects, tools, or controls. Repetitive movements are required. Work may be conducted in extremely bright or inadequate lighting conditions.
