Job Summary/Description:

The KWTX First Alert Weather Team is accepting applications for a full-time weekend meteorologist to join our markets dominant weather leader. This position is all weather, with the focus on delivering high quality weather information across all of our platforms. The shift includes weekend evening newscasts and three weekdays focused on delivering content across our multiple platforms and leading our storm chasing efforts with our two advanced storm chasing vehicles. This is the perfect opportunity for someone who wants to build extensive on-air/digital experience and work with a team of meteorologists who have over 30 years of experience forecasting the weather in Central Texas.

Duties/Responsibilities include (but not limited to):

– Work alongside meteorology team to execute First Alert Weather brand on all platforms
– Research, produce and present weekend weather forecasts on all platforms
– Assist with production of weekly half-hour weather show
– Assist in the coverage of severe weather in studio and in fleet of storm chasing units
– Share passion for meteorology in classrooms and community though Project Tornado program
– Tell the weather story on all platforms including: broadcast, web, social media, live streaming, radio and our 24 hour weather channel
– Assist in other weather-related coverage as needed

Qualifications/Requirements:

– Knowledge of WSI Systems
– A college degree in Meteorology or related field
– A strong on-air presence, with the ability to lead our weekend coverage
– Willingness to produce weather content outside of normal weather segments
– Ability to diagnose visual environment and radar data during severe weather
– Chasing experience is a plus
– Ability to work a flexible schedule to fill in for other Meteorologists, and to cover severe weather
– Strong work ethic, and ability to work with a team
– Willingness to learn new technology
– A clean driving record, and valid drivers license
