DESCRIPTION

WKYC, the NBC affiliate in Cleveland, OH, is looking for an engaging, experienced, social media savvy Part-Time Weekend Meteorologist. This position will be on an as needed basis. Qualified applicants must have a meteorology or similar degree, at least two years of on-air television experience, and the ability to work in fast-paced, team atmosphere. The ideal candidate will have experience studying severe weather and will be able to use a broad range of technology.

Responsibilities

  • Position is part time and as needed on-air position to support weather team
  • Gather and analyze weather data
  • Present on-air forecasts with clear, concise, and interesting weather segments
  • Build weather forecasts – produce computer form graphics
  • Keep up to date on the latest weather data gather/delivery trends
  • Assist Digital team in writing & posting of stories on WKYC.com

Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communication, Electronic Media or related field
  • 2 years of on-air television forecasting experience
  • Demonstrated experience in generating content digital and social media platforms
  • Strong communication skills (written/oral) for on-air delivery
  • Knowledge of WSI preferred. Be proficient at posting content to various websites and social media; computer literacy required, including weather and newsroom computer systems.
  • AMS and/or NWA Seal of approval preferred but not required.
  • Proven ability to work under pressure while meeting daily assigned deadlines
  • Ability to interact productively & positively within different environments
  • Applicable knowledge of multi-platform news gathering tools and resources
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record
