KBAK/KBFX is searching for an engaging meteorologist who will connect with viewers both on-air & online and in the community. The meteorologist is responsible for analyzing meteorological data gathered by satellites and radar to prepare reports and forecasts for the newscasts, digital, & social media. We are looking for someone who knows the science of forecasting and can tell a relatable weather story to keep viewers safe and informed.

KBAK/KBFX is searching for an engaging meteorologist who will connect with viewers both on-air & online and in the community. The meteorologist is responsible for analyzing meteorological data gathered by satellites and radar to prepare reports and forecasts for the newscasts, digital, & social media. We are looking for someone who knows the science of forecasting and can tell a relatable weather story to keep viewers safe and informed. You will be an accurate forecaster, convey an appropriate tone for the situation, summarize complicated information, and be able to use the latest technology. You will also lead a team of weather forecasters and will demonstrate and communicate our coverage plan to producers, anchors, reporters, video journalists, and our digital team. Collaboration is a big part of this role! You will report to the News Director.
Responsibilities:
- Get viewers ready with accurate, compelling, and understandable weather forecasts
- Issue warnings and alerts, produce graphics and maps, and report live during weather events
- Provide immediate weather information before and during severe weather events
- Provide content on our TV, digital, OTT, and social platforms
- Use all the latest technology available to us, to tell an intriguing weather story
- Deploy in the field during weather events
- Summarize facts and content for broadcasts
- Execute active live shots and tell compelling stories
- Communicate weather presentation vision with our team of anchors, reporters, video journalists, and production staff
- Produce and publish content to online platforms
- Exceptional written communication skills using a conversational writing style
- Will coach the weather team and guide them to success through feedback opportunities
- Will appear at public events and community educational outreach opportunities
Requirements:
- 10 to 15 years of experience as a meteorologist or chief meteorologist
- In-depth knowledge of weather science and forecasting
- Dynamic on-air presence with a conversational weather presentation
- Knowledgeable about how to interpret and translate high-powered radar data
- Proficient in using the latest graphics and technology
- NWA and CBM seals are a plus
- Bachelor's degree in Meteorology, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience
