Position title: Live Sports Director and Producer SWX

Position Status: Full-time, non-exempt

Position Pay: $19.00-$21.00 PR/ Hr. DOE

SUMMARY
Love live sports? We have the opportunity for you! SWX-TV has a brand-new opening in Spokane. As the live, local sports leader, we are looking for someone to join our live production team and take over the Live Sports Director and Producer role for our remote production broadcasts. We produce hundreds of local events and are gearing up for another busy season of high school and college football and beyond. This position is responsible for switching shows, logistics and site management while assisting with crewing and scheduling for our remote production facility. The ideal candidate has extensive knowledge of sports, works well in high energy situations, and preferably has experience in live production trucks.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Communicate frequently throughout the day and work collaboratively with others in the field and the station.
Troubleshoot technical issues quickly and effectively under pressure.
Get along and communicate with a variety of people in extreme circumstances.
Act professionally when dealing with on-site clients.
Work with the broadcast team on best practices and innovating productions.
Lead technical directing (switching) for live remote broadcasts, calling camera shots, replay, graphics, and audio cues to deliver clean, on-brand shows.
Coordinate remote production logistics end-to-end, including site surveys, power and connectivity planning, transmission (L3/fiber/IP/bonded cellular), and contingency plans.
Build show rundowns, production books, and shot lists; collaborate with talent to script opens, teases, and in-game elements that elevate local storytelling.
Manage remote crew assignments and scheduling; provide on-site leadership, coach new crew members, and enforce safety and communication protocols.
Oversee graphics and scoreboard integrations, ensuring accurate, timely updates and consistent SWX visual standards.

Must be flexible to cover big events on any shift, including nights, weekends and holidays.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

A minimum of two years of experience in live sports broadcasting is preferred.
Degree in Media, Communications, Broadcasting or similar program preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS

Strong leadership skills.
Availability for big event coverage on unassigned shifts.
Exemplary communication skills.
Knowledge of IP-based production systems or remote broadcast workflows.
Ability to think quickly and troubleshoot in high pressure situations and have strong organization and communication skills.
An above-average, demonstrable knowledge of television sports production techniques and broadcast delivery is extremely helpful.
Must possess valid driver’s license and be insurable.

TECHNICAL SKILLS

Office Tools: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) or equivalent tools (e.g., Google Workspace), including email and calendar management.
Video Editing: Knowledge of software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or similar tools.
Broadcast-Specific Software: Proficiency with broadcast equipment such as video switchers (e.g., Ross, Grass Valley), replay systems (e.g., EVS, NewTek), and audio boards.
Live Streaming: Strong understanding of signal flow (SDI, fiber, IP, etc.) and troubleshooting techniques.

Ability to adjust tone and vocabulary for diverse audiences and platforms.

Strong conflict resolution and adaptability to audience preferences.

Strong critical thinking skills to evaluate sources, analyze data, and make editorial decisions.

Physical Demands

Frequent standing, walking, and sitting for extended periods eight (8) to ten (10) hours per day.
Occasional lifting of equipment (e.g., cameras, tripods) up to 50 pounds.
Frequent work in tight, confined spaces.
Manual dexterity in operating equipment and computers.
Ability to work irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Work Environment

Both indoors in various locations and outdoors in various weather conditions.
Possible exposure to moderate or high noise levels both indoors and outdoors.
Extensive travel and on-location work required.
