POSITION OVERVIEW
Our next News 6 Investigator will be joining a team of two Investigative Reporters and an experienced Producer, as well as a veteran broadcast journalist as your investigative coach.
What you bring to the role is a highly competitive nature, driven to uncover lead stories every week and not get scooped! You are skilled in developing trust rapidly with viewers and sources and are comfortable with a fast-changing workday. This role requires considerable experience analyzing complex documents. You must also be an expert in requesting records and doing research for the information needed to properly build out a balanced report.
While you will regularly partner with experienced photojournalists, you must be able to shoot and edit on your own from time to time. You understand how to take viewers behind the scenes to see your reporting process on camera. You’re also tech-savvy, so you can easily incorporate new technology, equipment, and AI in your workflows. And you have a strong on-camera delivery that is clear, conversational, and commands attention.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Turn multiple stories every week.
- Pitch investigative stories from sources vetted in advance.
- Deliver in-depth perspective reporting that can support team coverage on major news of the day.
- Produce digital articles, videos, vertical videos, and other visuals/graphics as needed that drive engagement with your stories.
- Report stories that are fair, balanced, and use process language often, when appropriate.
- Possess strong interviewing skills where you are comfortable asking tough questions in a professional manner, either in a one-on-one setting or a high-pressure news conference.
- Monitor various News 6 viewer tiplines and know how to go about validating claims.
- Synthesize complex documents and break them down into conversational terms.
- Execute creative storytelling standups and teases that include movement.
- Create good solutions for problems or when something doesn’t go as planned.
- Partner productively with platform producers and newsroom leaders.
- Have experience partnering with a photojournalist.
KEY QUALIFICATIONS
- Several years of successful reporting in 2 television markets preferred; at least one of those was a medium market or a very active market with a high volume of news.
- Prior experience working as an Investigative Reporter in local news.
- Knowledge of Florida laws, including the state’s broad Sunshine Laws.
- Demonstrates a detailed and well-organized personal process to track, attribute, and analyze information and interviews.
- A college degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field is preferred.
- Proficient in multiple newsroom producing and editing systems, social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube, and verified internet search and research techniques and databases.
- Work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays, as news and business needs require.
- Have a valid driver’s license with a safety record acceptable to Graham Media Group.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS
- Prior years of successful reporting experience in a television news environment, evidencing strong storytelling, live reporting, and news-gathering skills.
- A college degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field is preferred.
- Proficiency with current computer software, newsroom computer systems, smartphone technology, and social media platforms.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively under high pressure and within tight deadlines.
- Strong interviewing skills and the capability to shoot and edit video as needed.
- A clear, energetic, and engaging on-camera presence.
- A flexible schedule with the willingness to work irregular hours, including nights, weekends, holidays, and in response to breaking news.
- A valid driver’s license with a record acceptable to the company, facilitating travel to various locations for news gathering.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- A college degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field.
- Bilingual abilities to connect with a broader audience.
- Experience in a variety of reporting formats, including experimental video strategies and non-traditional storytelling techniques.
- A history of investigative or original, enterprise reporting that demonstrates an impact on the community.
- Familiarity with multimedia storytelling, including the use of graphics and data to enhance stories.
