Job Summary/Description:
WBRC Fox 6 in Birmingham, AL is looking for a multi-media journalist to prepare and present breaking news to our morning audience via our First Alert Desk.
We are looking for a Reporter who is hungry for urgent news. This person must be resourceful and able to scope out new information and breaking stories. The position requires someone to find and prepare urgent news stories throughout a 6-hour long morning show. He or she will also be responsible for anchoring when needed, as well as field reporting.
Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate excellent news judgment. He or she must be a self-starter, an excellent and clear communicator, and a team player.
We place a high value on storytelling and crafting stories to best resonate with the audience.
Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
– Regularly pitch innovative stories that go beyond the headlines everyone else is reporting.
– Know what's happening in Central Alabama — checking wires and other media outlets or scrolling through social media, Reddit, or your own conversations to tap into what stories aren't being told — or could be told better.
– Be versatile. This position requires you to creatively tell positive, hopeful, and fun stories, as well as cover local and college sports. There will be times you will be called upon to cover hard news and severe weather. You must be able to easily flex between topics.
– Seamlessly write copy for our digital assets, including social media.
Qualifications/Requirements:
– BA degree in broadcasting or equivalent work experience
– Expert level ad libbing skills
– Expert level shooting, writing, and editing skills
– Master storyteller
– Ability to meet deadlines
– Strong broadcast and AP style writing skills
– Self-motivated and able to work in a fast-paced deadline-driven environment
