Executive News Director
Standard Media Group is looking for an Executive News Director for KLKN-TV, our ABC affiliate in Lincoln, Nebraska.
The Executive News Director will be a leader for news and marketing operations across all broadcast and digital platforms at KLKN. We’re looking for a competitive spirit with a relentless commitment to team-building, local news and a multi-platform approach. In addition, the Executive News Director will provide direction for the news operation at KBSI-TV, the company’s FOX affiliate in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.
The Executive News Director must be a dynamic leader at the macro level, providing brand consistency, high quality local journalism and innovative solutions for news and marketing strategy, direction, structure and workflow. The Executive News Director must be passionate about coaching, mentoring, guiding and growing a competitive, enthusiastic news team.
Responsibilities:
- Lead execution of KLKN’s news and marketing brands across all broadcast, digital and social platforms
- Manage and grow the KLKN news and marketing leadership team
- Set clear goals and objectives – with specified timelines – for the news and marketing managers and the news and marketing teams as a whole; develop and implement a system to follow-up on these goals and objectives consistently and ensure they are being met
- Create and execute strong systems and standards in areas including, but not limited to, communication, quality control and content for the KLKN and KBSI news teams
- Consistently monitor content across all KLKN and KBSI platforms; provide ongoing feedback to the team, including regular newscast, marketing and digital reviews
- Manage KLKN news and marketing budget
- Provide strategy and direction for KBSI’s news operation, including clear goals and timelines; implement systems to ensure those goals are met
Qualifications:
- 5+ years as a newsroom manager in a broadcast and digital environment
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications or related field preferred; or equivalent experience
- Proven record of leadership
- Strong communication, delegation and problem-solving skills
- Strategic thinker at a macro level
