About KTUU:

We are a broadcaster based in Anchorage with 14 unique program streams seen throughout southcentral Alaska and transmitted in the southeast Alaska communities of Juneau, Sitka, and Ketchikan. Alaska's News Source is the state's most-watched and dominant source for news, producing 32 hours of content each week on KTUU (NBC Anchorage), KYES (CBS Anchorage, KATH (NBC Juneau), and KYEX (CBS Juneau) as well as delivering content on multiple digital platforms.

Job Summary/Description:  

This is a department head leadership position, managing the station's technology with a team of four. Responsible for oversight of technical operations, building facilities, and vehicle fleet, and digital production, as well as distribution systems that produce and deliver high-quality video streams across multiple platforms.

Duties/Responsibilities will include (but not limited to):

* Manage television technical operations, including content play-out systems and servers, HD studio facilities, editing suites, remote and microwave equipment, video streaming, IT infrastructure, cable and satellite distribution, as well as all other technical and facility systems and platforms
* Responsible for technical facilities in Anchorage, Mat-Su Valley, Kenai Peninsula, Juneau, Sitka, and Ketchikan
* Ensure around-the-clock (24/7) high-quality broadcast and digital platform operations
* Always protect the station's FCC licenses
* Fully responsible for all aspects of studio and transmitter equipment repair and compliance, building infrastructure, and vehicle fleet management
* Hire and supervise staff
* Plan and implement all capital expenses, as well as departmental budget
* Provide internal authority and full understanding of FCC matters, as well as other regulatory authorities such as EPA and OSHA
* Plan and implement broadcast and IT operations throughout the technical plant as well as connectivity for projects with the Gray corporate team
* Maintain engineering, broadcast, IT procedures, and documentation, including Standard Operating Procedures, up-to-date technical drawings, and service contracts
* Manage the station’s capital equipment pipeline from start to finish
* Implement and manage staff and systems related to routine and emergency maintenance/repair of facilities/grounds
* Implement and oversee safety and security procedures
* Oversee management and planning of projects as required
* Maintain technically accurate records

Qualifications/Requirements:

* Applicant should have a bachelor's degree (computing or engineering program preferred) and/or formal training in IT or a related field
* Previous employment in the capacity of Director of Technology/Engineering or a minimum of 5 years as an Assistant Chief in broadcasting at a major news operation is preferred
* Excellent verbal and writing skills will be expected as well as strong interpersonal skills
* Proven experience as a team builder and leader is required
* Must be able to work a flexible schedule including some travel with occasional night, weekend, and on-call work in support of a 24/7 television operation
