Job Summary/Description:

ABC7 is searching for our DIGITAL DESK PLANNING MANAGER. This is an important manager serving as our Newsroom Quarterback. The right candidate will track and develop content for all station platforms, including Social, Digital, and Broadcast operations.  S/He will organize the team, call the coverage plays and reset the day as necessary to deliver on newsroom objectives centered on hyperlocal coverage of Manatee and Sarasota Counties.

The DIGITAL DESK PLANNING MANAGER should be well organized and thrive on urgency, helping commit to our digital first newsroom philosophy, while producing web content and posting to social media. Most importantly, this newsroom manager is focused on partnership and collaboration, always seeing the possible. Our newsroom leaders are team players and expected to jump in to help produce & edit video on a case-by-case basis.

While this is primarily a Monday-Friday position, it should be noted that News Managers share a weekend on-call rotation. This position also coordinates and participates in staff all-calls for extended breaking and tropical weather coverage.

Duties/Responsibilities will include, but not limited to:

• Create and maintain real-time daily coverage planners tracking digital and broadcast assignments.
• Uncover, confirm, and communicate breaking stories to newsroom.
• Manage daybook by organizing news releases and story ideas.
• Curate story pitches and updates, evaluating timeliness and significance.
• Works with Digital Content Manager to assign digital duties of news staff in addition to on-air reporting
• Field and make calls and monitor scanners and social media feeds.
• Track reporter beats and story updates.
• Develop and schedule content for promotable and TSR’s.
• Approve reporter scripts as necessary.
• Maintain newsroom staff schedule with input from other newsroom managers.

Qualifications/Requirements:

• 5+ years' experience as an Assignments Manager or Assignment Editor in a commercial television newsroom
• Working knowledge of ARC Content Management System
• Bachelor's Degree in Communication or Journalism preferred
• Collaborative, empathetic, training-centered approach needed
• Ability to create and sustain newsroom content tracking systems
• Ability to move seamlessly between Social News Desk, ENPS, Edius, and VizRT platforms
