DESCRIPTION

KCEN-TV, Central Texas’ NBC affiliate serving Waco, Temple, and Killeen, is searching for a Digital Content Producer who thrives in a fast-paced environment and has a vision for what local news can and should be in the digital and social spaces. Candidates must also have a strong understanding of editing video for news and the concepts of producing a newscast. The ideal candidate will have a multitude of talents including the ability to edit video and track down information through interviews, public records searches, and social media. Our producers must be able to skillfully use social media and digital tools to research, discover and distribute content. KCEN Digital Content Producers are strong writers, great teammates, and leaders in the newsroom, responsible for optimizing the user experience on all screens.

Responsibilities

  • Produce content for digital platforms including kcentv.com, and social media sites
  • Edit reporter stories for grammar, content and structure using AP style
  • Use editorial judgement to help determine content for newscasts
  • Enterprise stories to turn for digital exclusives
  • Edit video for newscasts
  • Work with reporters and anchors to produce high quality edited video
  • Use social listening to help identify key stories that will build social engagement
  • Perform other tasks as required by supervisor

Requirements

  • Prior newsroom experience, with at least 1-3 years digital experience
  • Excellent writing (stories, social, push notifications), editing and proofreading skills
  • Strong knowledge of AP Style
  • Knowledge of SEO best practices and how to implement
  • Proficiency in running social media accounts and how to optimize videos for specific platforms
  • Demonstrated experience with editing in Adobe Premiere and Photoshop
  • Excellent communication and time management skills
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to prioritize and manage requests from various sources with an ability to work well with varied personalities within deadlines
  • Understanding digital metrics and analytics is a plus
  • Self-starter who can also work well as a member of a team
  • Deadline-driven and able to multitask/perform well in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including holidays and weekends, as warranted by vacations/breaking news coverage
