WFMY-TV

TEGNA, Inc.

DESCRIPTION

WFMY News 2, Tegna’s CBS affiliate in Greensboro, North Carolina, is searching for a Digital Content Producer to join our newsroom’s digital content and audience engagement team.

Successful Digital Producers at WFMY become leaders in the newsroom, responsible for the audience experience on digital, social media and streaming platforms. They track multiple streams of information and communication, helping the newsroom stay on the pulse of what’s happening in our communities and deliver the most important stories of the day to our audience. They take initiative in confirming news tips and creating content (stories, videos, social media posts, etc.) around key digital audience drivers – like breaking and trending news, weather, sports and politics – with the goal of engaging, broadening and serving our audience.

We’re looking for someone who is excited about journalism and eager to jump into the operations of a local newsroom. Someone who is organized, proactive and professional. Someone who has strong communication skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Qualified candidates should be strong writers, first, with the ability to write quickly and accurately – and demonstrate that through a writing test.

The candidate hired will build upon those foundational skills by learning how to take an audience-first approach to news reporting, writing, producing and digital platform distribution.

Responsibilities

  • Track multiple streams of information to keep up with the daily news cycle
  • Communicate effectively with teammates and the newsroom
  • Reach out to organizations, individuals and other sources to confirm information
  • Research for facts and credibility
  • Write in a compelling, conversational and professional manner
  • Write, package and publish original news content
  • Edit reporter stories for grammar, content, structure and AP style
  • Use creative production/story packaging techniques, like subheads, hyperlinks, graphics and media (viewer pictures, UGC, etc.) to enhance stories
  • Use audience analytics tools and SEO strategies, practice social media listening and monitor digital audience trends to discover story ideas, determine content creation and make a variety of editorial decisions for our digital platforms
  • Perform other tasks as required by supervisors
