Job Summary/Description:
WALA is seeking a Digital Content / News Producer who can thrive in a busy newsroom, stay on top of breaking news, and find and create compelling content in between breaking stories. You’ll be producing urgent, impactful shows, writing stories, editing, and taking an active role in producing social media and web content.
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
– Working quickly to send out breaking news, weather, and traffic alerts, including push notifications, social media updates, and stories that are updated as news develops
– Prioritize, organize, and produce newscasts, including writing local, national, and international stories in a format for on-air.
– Act as a leader in facilitating teamwork of staff members
– Work with directors and anchors on the presentation of stories
– Write and post content, including news stories, videos, and pictures, across all WALA platforms
– Writing engaging digital headlines & compelling posts on social media
– Post and then update developing stories online as more details become known
– Monitoring social media accounts and websites to find new content for newscasts and the website
– Clipping video for website/OTT
– Create daily content for our digital news desk
– Assist anchors and reporters with streaming news from our digital news desk
– Assist reporters and anchors with composing their digital stories when needed
Qualifications/Requirements:
– In-depth knowledge of digital and social platforms and current trends
– Knowledge of AP Stylebook
– Experience using a content management system
– Strong editorial skills
– Demonstrate solid news judgment
– Enjoy a fast-paced environment with a desire to win
– Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments
– Knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and Premiere
– Knowledge of copyright laws and media ethics
– Ability to work independently with little supervision
– Knowledge of newsroom software
– Clear, concise, conversational writing skills
– Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in broadcast journalism or related field preferred
