DESCRIPTION

WBIR-TV, the TEGNA NBC affiliate in Knoxville, TN, is seeking an experienced Broadcast Supervisor to help manage our technical operations team, and to have input in the development of all station broadcast operations. The position will be integral in the operation and support of a 24x7x365 broadcast facility encompassing all departments, equipment and ultimately the audience served.

Candidates will have extensive knowledge of production workflows and techniques. You must be a forward-thinking, hands-on manager with ability to troubleshoot various technical and operational issues. The Broadcast Supervisor works with all departments and serves as the technical liaison between the newsroom, IT, marketing and engineering. This position reports to the Head of Technology.

Responsibilities: 

• Help manage a team of which supports all media productions and distribution technologies in a 24/7/365 environment

• Support day to day operations of our broadcast station including daily news operations, studio equipment and computer-based systems.

• Maintain and repair satellite/microwave ENG equipment, cameras, switchers, graphic systems, audio equipment, routers, editing systems, intercoms, display monitors, and traditional desktop services.

• Create and maintain wiring documentation and system configuration documentation.

• Maintain knowledge staying current on technological advances.

• Knowledge of IT and Broadcast system operations, maintenance and services as needed to assist in supporting these systems.

• Responsible for planning technical requirements for all special events, like elections, and/or daily news needs. This includes site surveys, logistics, resource allocation, plan development and overseeing execution of plan with news management, etc.

• Provide technical support to all operational users.

• Collaborate with engineering to verify/ensure technical requirements of the control room automation, equipment, and studio are met

• Help create and implement standard operating procedures for broadcast equipment.

• Manage the implementation and documentation of capital and special projects

REQUIREMENTS

Requirements: 

• Previous television broadcast and/or network IT experience preferred, 5+ years.

• Ability to troubleshoot and maintain television broadcast equipment.

• Ability to install and maintain computer systems and network equipment.

• Effective written and verbal communication skills – ability to plan technical projects and clearly communicate the status of problems, provide updates on projects, and offer solutions to technical issues.

• Must possess strong personal interaction skills, good communication skills, ability to work under pressure and deadlines, and ability to prioritize multiple projects.

• Demonstrated strong project management experience.

• Must be able to work a flexible schedule in support of a 24x7x365 operation.

• Self-Motivated leader with proven problem-solving abilities

• Commitment to continuing to foster a culture of teamwork, collaboration, and innovation

• Ability to make quick, sound, ethical decisions while working under strict deadlines

• Ability to multi-task and juggle high-profile projects with attention-to-detail
