DESCRIPTION

WOI/KCWI-TV, the TEGNA owned ABC affiliate in Des Moines, IA is seeking a Broadcast / IT Engineer to maintain and support all media distribution platforms, including but not limited to broadcast technology, operations, and IT. The ideal candidate can balance multiple ongoing projects while addressing the immediate maintenance needs of a 24/7 operation. Responsibilities: 

  • Support day to day operations of our broadcast stations including daily news operations, studio equipment and IT systems.
  • Maintain and repair satellite/microwave ENG equipment, cameras, switchers, graphic systems, audio equipment, routers, editing systems, intercoms, display monitors, and traditional desktop services.
  • Maintain, upgrade, and support broadcast and IT environments throughout the station including the sales department, news department, television production and broadcast studios.
  • Troubleshoot and repair computer hardware, software, and peripherals, including PCs and PC applications, and virus protection.
  • Maintain Windows Server and Active Directory in a complex LAN and WAN computing environment.
  • Maintain knowledge and stay current on technological advances including computer software and hardware, media and entertainment technologies, television broadcasting, studio production and workstation products.
  • Create and maintain wiring documentation and system configuration documentation.
  • Provide light building maintenance and perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

Requirements

  • Great customer service and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with non-technical end users.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and maintain television broadcast and IT equipment.
  • Previous television broadcast and/or network IT experience preferred.
  • Solid understanding of current computer hardware, network technologies, and Microsoft’s Active Directory environment
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills – ability to plan technical projects and clearly communicate the status of problems, provide updates to progress on projects, and offer solutions to technical issues.
  • Self-starter, able to work efficiently without direct supervision.
  • Must possess strong personal interaction skills, good communication skills, ability to work under pressure and deadlines, and ability to prioritize multiple projects.
  • Ability to work various hours and days including nights, weekends, and holidays. Available on call 24/7 as needed.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs., climb ladders and work on elevated surfaces, pull and install wiring, use hand and power tools, work on small components, and perform other physical tasks.
  • Must be willing to work onsite at our facility in Des Moines, IL and must be willing and available to work flexible hours, including overnight shifts, weekends, holidays in order to meet the needs of a 24×7 operation.

Travel: Rarely: less than 10%

Work Environment Set: Office: normally performed in a typical interior/office environment

Physical Demands Set: Medium work: Involves standing prolong hours, stooping, bending, lifting/pushing up to 25 lbs.
