WTHR’s 13News, Indiana's news leader, is seeking a dynamic and versatile professional to join our operation as a full-time Broadcast Director. This role is perfect for someone who can excel in an automated environment and wants to use our technology to create compelling, energetic, and quickly paced broadcast and streaming content. The Broadcast Director will use Ross Overdrive automation to create and execute live and pre-produced content while working closely with producers and other teams. This position will also manage crew and stakeholders from other departments for pre-show production, studio shot planning and blocking, and graphics integration. In addition, this roll includes responsibility for assisting in troubleshooting, maintaining and updating control room-related systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Code and execute live and pre-produced content using Ross Overdrive automation.
  • Work closely with producers and other teams to produce live local broadcast and digital content throughout the day and act as the last line of defense to ensure an exceptional product reaches our audiences.
  • Manage crew and stakeholders from other departments for pre-show production, studio shot planning and blocking, and graphics integration.
  • Direct other shows, remote production shoots, and special events as scheduled, handling multiple live shots, and breaking news, and planning ahead for / adjusting to changes while maintaining an energetic pace.
  • Assist other Directors in coding and executing newscasts and special productions including studio support.
  • Assist in troubleshooting, maintaining and updating control room-related systems. This includes equipment in the Ross automation and robotics environments, Bitcentral video asset management system and Chyron graphics ecosystems.

Requirements:

  • Four (4) year college degree or equivalent related experience
  • Two (2) years of experience directing and/or technical directing newscasts, preferably in an automated production environment
  • Proven ability to work well under pressure and work well with others
  • Proven ability to direct fast-paced, rapidly changing productions for extended periods of time
  • Strong organizational, communications, and time-management skills
  • Must be able to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays
  • Ability to lift and operate handheld studio camera weighing 15 pounds for 20 minutes at a time
  •  

Preferred knowledge, skills or experience include:

  • Working knowledge of Ross Overdrive
  • Working knowledge of ENPS
  • Working knowledge of non-linear editors (Edius or Premiere preferred)
  • Familiarity with troubleshooting and patching of computer-based systems in a production environment
  • Customer service-focused approach to working with other departments and outside clients
