Job Description and Responsibilities
KPNX, the TEGNA station in Phoenix, AZ, has an opening for a Broadcast Director. The person filling this role is responsible for coding and switching our locally produced content using Sony ELC automation. The Broadcast Director also preps network programming for delayed playback. Effective interaction with a control room team from multiple departments is critical to success. Strong leadership and organizational skills are a must. Must be willing to cross-train.

Responsibilities:
- Code and switch live newscasts, recorded shows, and other local productions using Sony ELC.
- Oversee the overall look of the assigned show(s).
- Identify and correct potential problems before they hit air.
- Work closely with other production and engineering staff to facilitate changes and updates to our control room and studio systems.
- Prepping network programming (prime, late night, etc.) for delayed playback.
- Maintain studio operations and tidiness.
- Other broadcast duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS
Requirements:
- 3 years of experience in various aspects of television production preferred.
- Minimum of 1 year of directing experience.
- Excellent communication skills required, with an emphasis on working as a team with producers.
- Ability to adapt and pivot quickly for breaking news.
- Must be willing to work onsite at our facility in Phoenix, AZ and must be willing and available to work flexible hours, including overnight shifts, weekends, holidays in order to meet the needs of a 24×7 operation.
- Must cross-train in other positions, such as Steadicam operation, Tricaster operation, hubbed master control operation, floor directing, and editing.
- Strong working knowledge of television news production equipment including, but not limited to, studio lighting equipment, teleprompter, robotic studio cameras, switcher, remote cameras.
- Knowledge of control room automation systems (Sony ELC preferred) and technical directing in a non-automated control room.
- Experience with ENPS, Chyron, and BitCentral systems is a plus.

- Work Environment Set: Office: normally performed in a typical interior/office environment.
- Physical Demands Set: Light work: Involves sitting most of the time, walking, lifting, bending, standing, etc.
