KGKC is seeking an experienced Associate Producer to join Kansas City’s first and only Spanish-language newscast! The position is based in Kansas City, Missouri.
Responsibilities:
- Understands the station’s tenets of operation and news philosophy
- Works closely with News Director to develop and execute local newscasts and special news programs
- Ensures broadcast order of newscast segments and blocks
- Works closely with Editors, Reporters, and Anchors to produce, write, edit, and deliver a complete local newscast
- Ensures accuracy, integrity, and balance of news content
- Participates in daily editorial meetings and is a key communicator in the newsroom
- Effectively communicates priorities with on-air talent, editors, and production staff
- Integrates digital and social media strategies into newscasts, connecting with viewers though social media, polls, opinions, etc.
- Writes promotional teasers, headlines, and topicals
- Works with Reporters and Multimedia Journalists to improve story and presentation
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism degree or related field
- Must be able to speak, read, and write fluently in Spanish and must be able to speak, read and understand English
- Excellent news judgment, creative ideas and writing skills a must
- Experience in newsgathering, writing, and producing
- Experience with desktop editing systems and/or production
- Ability to pitch stories and make contacts with the local community
- Must be willing to work long hours, varying shifts (including nights and weekends) and report to work in emergencies depending on news coverage when necessary
- Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States
- Must have a valid driver's license
