DESCRIPTION
ROLE: Individual will coordinate daily news coverage on broadcast and digital platforms, maintain assignment desk functions, organize field assignments and plan coverage to support FOX 5/KUSI’s news brand.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for listening to scanners
- Dispatches photographers, reporters and other personnel to cover stories
- Tracks stories from all sources including government agencies, wire services and community groups
- Assists in development, planning and follow-up of all news stories
- Keeps newsroom informed of story developments throughout day
- Answers phones and email to determine what makes a great story
- Edits video clips as assigned
- Coordinates live shots and content sharing with Nexstar affiliates, FOX, and other partners
- Posts stories to station website and social media sites
- Performs other duties as assigned
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism or communications background preferred
- 2-year’s experience in a top 50 market newsroom
- Knowledge of the San Diego area a plus
REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have superior organizational skills
- Must be able to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments, and handle multiple tasks
- Must be able to make decisions and take a leadership role
- Must have excellent communication skills, both oral and written
- Must be able to direct the efforts of reporters, photographers
- Must be able to operate as a team member as well as a team leader
- Must be able to take suggestions, participate in decision-making, and be flexible in recognizing various points of view
- Must be capable of interacting productively with other employees of the station
- Must be willing to work on weekends, holidays and overnight hours as needed
- Starting $27.00/hr commensurate with skill level and experience
