DESCRIPTION

WRGB/WCWN has an immediate opening for an aggressive Assignment Manager! The Assignment Manager manages news assignments, coordinates logistics, and monitors news wires, scanners, and social media platforms. Strong writing skills and knowledge of current events are required. Knowledge of the FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) process, computer-assisted reporting, and data-driven reporting is a plus. Prior experience as assignment editor or other related experience preferred.

The Assignment Manager manages news assignments, coordinates logistics, and monitors news wires, scanners, and social media platforms. Strong writing skills and knowledge of current events are required. Knowledge of the FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) process, computer-assisted reporting, and data-driven reporting is a plus. Prior experience as assignment editor or other related experience preferred.

Essential Duties and Requirements include the following: 

  • Exemplary verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to take direction and work efficiently during breaking news events 
  • Responsible for executing the editorial vision of the News Director and Assistant News Director daily  
  • Must work well in a team environment 
  • A self-starter who can generate story ideas daily 
  • Ability to edit video for stories 
  • Ability to write and post stories on digital platforms 
  • Ability to work under deadline and on a flexible schedule is required 
  • Contribute story ideas to daily editorial meetings 
  • Conduct interviews when required via phone, email, ZOOM, or other methods 
  • Participate in regular content planning meetings 
  • Create planning system for daily, weekly, and monthly coverage 
  • Coordinate special event planning and logistics 
  • Build and maintain database of news sources and contacts 
  • Manage the daily performance of assignment editors  
  • Responsible for acting as an on-call manager during select weekends
  • Other duties may be assigned
