We are looking for an experienced Android Team Lead to join our Engineering department. This role involves leading and mentoring our Android development team, driving technical excellence, and delivering exceptional mobile experiences to our audience across TEGNA’s digital properties. Based in Knoxville, TN, this role requires strong collaboration across multiple teams and a commitment to our core engineering values of transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement. In partnership with product and design leadership, this position will be instrumental in helping to driving the strategic vision and defining the requirements of the products we build.

Responsibilities:
•    Lead, mentor, and support a team of Android developers, ensuring alignment with our technical standards and engineering culture
•    Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and other engineering teams to define requirements and deliver outcome-focused features
•    Architect and develop robust, scalable, and maintainable Android applications using Kotlin and Jetpack Compose
•    Facilitate sprint planning, retrospectives, and stand-ups, driving agile practices and continuous improvement
•    Proactively manage technical debt, emphasizing long-term maintainability and platform consistency
•    Ensure comprehensive testing and monitoring strategies are implemented and maintained
•    Lead code reviews, provide technical direction, and promote best practices across the team
•    Oversee the deployment and release process, ensuring smooth launches and updates

Requirements:
•    5–7+ years of professional Android development experience with a strong focus on Kotlin and Jetpack Compose
•    Proven experience leading development teams and mentoring junior engineers
•    Deep understanding of modern Android architecture patterns (MVVM, Clean Architecture)
•    Solid experience integrating RESTful APIs and managing asynchronous operations
•    Strong knowledge of automated testing strategies (JUnit) and CI/CD best practices
•    Exceptional communication, collaboration, and leadership skills
•    Ability to balance technical excellence with rapid iteration and delivery
Nice To Have
•    Previous experience in digital media, streaming platforms, or video delivery (HLS, advertising integration)
•    Familiarity with DevOps practices, infrastructure-as-code, and cloud-native application architectures
