KYTX CBS19 in Tyler, Texas has an amazing opportunity for a creative, innovative, and enterprising Anchor/Multi-Skilled Journalist. The ideal candidate will help continue our mission of “Putting East Texas First.” We are looking for a newsroom leader who wants to win every day! This is the job for a journalist who excels at accountability, reporting and breaking news. This person must have a heart for community and character-driven storytelling. This is NOT a job for someone who is uncomfortable asking tough but fair questions. This IS a job for a journalist who thrives in an environment of creating unique stories for all platforms through memorable writing, photography, and editing. This journalist must be able to work with producers to develop smart and engaging newscasts. We are seeking a person who has big ideas and can help contribute to special projects and enterprise stories.
Responsibilities:
• Use editorial judgment to offer feedback and suggestions content of the newscasts.
• Work with producer and team to create unique, fast-paced innovative newscasts.
• Monitor social media to identify newscast content and highlight big social stories.
• Write and post daily on all digital platforms including social media (Facebook, X, Instagram, TikTok).
• Guide reporters daily to develop strong story pitches, elevate their storytelling and on-air personality.
• Develop story ideas daily.
• Write, shoot and edit news stories for on-air broadcast.
• Develop original content through social listening and independent sources.
• Perform other tasks as required by supervisor.
Requirements:
• Engage with the local East Texas community through volunteering opportunities, finding a passion project that will help bring stories into the newsroom.
• Broadcast Journalism and/or Communication degree preferred.
• Understand the tenets of professional Journalism.
• Excellent, creative presentation and writing skills a must.
• Bilingual (Spanish & English) is a plus.
• Write & deliver news in an exciting, captivating, and authentic manner.
• Must be a team player and flexible with schedules.
• Knowledge of Edius, AP ENPS, TEAMS & Microsoft Word Suite required.
• Interview news subjects and research for facts and credibility.
• Write for the web, including attaching images and streaming video.
• Use creative production techniques such as graphics and new forms of media (viewer pictures, webcam interviews, etc.) to enhance stories.
