DESCRIPTION

The 9Health/9News Health Correspondent supports both 9News and 9Health priorities and is responsible for developing and presenting preventive health and wellness-related content. This position will use available data to pitch relevant health-related ideas, including creating video and written stories, as well as social posts for 9News and 9Health platforms.  This position requires availability to provide expertise on breaking or topical health developments both in-person or remotely if necessary.

Provides on-camera interviews, education, and written pieces, either as expert or interviewer with subject matter expertise on the following topics:

  • Preventive Health
  • Health consumerism issues & news
  • Colorado-specific health needs, issues, solutions, e.g. rural vs urban health issues/solutions
  • Mental health issues, preventive solutions
  • Health insurance utilization
  • Health data use, issues, value
  • Health and medical technologies/innovations, e.g. telehealth, consumer health devices, etc.
  • Social determinants and other non-medical health-related influences

Responsibilities

  • Presents as the on-screen 'face of 9Health' for both partners, for on-camera presence, during health fair seasons and as available for year-round stories and content
  • Represents and aligns with 9Health values and preventive health philosophies, including unbiased objectivity, authenticity, and strategic direction
  • Liaison between 9News & 9Health activities, identifying potential synergistic opportunities
  • Provides increased visibility, credibility for 9Health
  • Social media influencer on behalf of 9Health
  • Record promos representing 9Health services, including Prevention Partner Programming
  • Host a 9Health weekly social media video series (e.g. Health Happens, or 'Ask-a-Doc').  Assist with developing show topics, guests
  • Represents 9Health at relevant events, conferences, speaking opportunities
  • Identifies health/wellness experts for news, interviews, and partnerships
  • Serves on 9Health's Medical Advisory Committee

News Room

  • Attends newsroom editorial meetings, generates/develops health news stories
  • Use available data and social insights to guide health editorial coverage
  • Create engaging, original broadcast and digital content that is easy to understand
  • Able to convey an authoritative, but reassuring presence on-camera
  • Available to respond outside regular business hours including mornings, evenings, and weekends to provide medical expertise and analysis on breaking health stories both in-person or remotely
  • Able to collaborate with other newsroom employees to produce health related content
  • Able to break down complicated medical topics for audience
  • Additional Duties as assigned

JOB EXPERIENCE


REQUIREMENTS

What you need:

  • Medical Doctor/Physician (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO), current licensure in Colorado in good standing 
  • Strongly Preferred: practicing (current/previous) primary, preventive or family medicine specialist
  • Passion for the work of 9Health, e.g. has previously volunteered at fairs
  • Prompt, dependable, articulate, detail-oriented; possess strong communication skills. 
  • Must be people-oriented and relatable, curious, and enjoy working with community volunteers
  • Additional information:
  • 9Health is pursuing service line and mission impact growth; additional functional responsibilities/opportunities may become available based on experience and expertise
  • Increased hours may be required during peak seasons, currently Spring and Fall months
  • Completing/passing a background check and drug test will be required for the final candidate
