WNEP-TV, the Tegna-owned ABC affiliate in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania has an immediate opening for a Broadcast Director. The person selected for this position will have the primary responsibility of coding and directing WNEP live newscasts and in-house productions as well as directing station remotes. The Broadcast Director will work closely with our news, production and technical teams to produce fast-paced, compelling and comprehensive newscasts and programs. We are looking for someone to bring forward-thinking production ideas, strong technical knowledge, and the ability to manage quality control at a high level. In addition, the candidate must also be familiar with all studio operations, camera operation, teleprompter, audio and lighting.
Responsibilities:
- Work with the news and technical departments, news producers in the preparation of newscasts
- Direct and oversee the overall look of newscasts and on-air programming assigned
- Communicate technical and production needs to the control room staff
- Identify and correct potential technical problems before they air.
- Find and implement solutions to any discrepancies that occurred during a production
- Proficient at all control room positions
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in communications or TV Production or related degree; or equivalent experience may be substituted.
- Maintain professionalism through planning, production and follow up of each assigned newscast or on-air programming.
- Must have excellent communication skills, with an emphasis on working as a team with multiple departments.
- Must be proficient in the operation of all control room computers and systems
- Must maintain the high standards of WNEP
- Be able to work under extreme deadlines, adapting quickly and responding effectively during breaking news and unexpected events
- Must be flexible with scheduling: this position includes weekends, and may also cover early mornings, nights, or holidays as needed.
