DESCRIPTION

Position Title: Producer

Position Status: Full-Time, Non-Exempt

Position Pay: $16.00 Per Hr.

SUMMARY 
A Producer for our family-owned company is expected to share in the same baseline job description. You will report directly to the News Director, who will decide scheduling, evaluate your performance relative to the job description, as well as other managers. Our operation is based on a story-centric workflow. That means we prioritize story treatment across a variety of platforms, from our linear broadcasts to our streaming services, as well as social media and our digital properties. A good producer is a team player with attention to detail, accuracy, dedication, sharp writing, and a strong flair for compelling video. 

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

 

  • Focuses on accuracy and strong writing in scripts. Works closely with anchors, reporters and other producers to create accurate, informative, and engaging content. 
  • Manage content and story treatment and work with newsroom managers to best showcase that content on any platform NonStop Local supports.  
  • Produce and write assigned segments, which may include non-linear newscasts.
  • Ensure memorable moments and stories are communicated to the Content Manager and digital team to be shared on digital and social platforms. 
  • Participate in daily planning meetings. Contribute ideas for news programming based on research and our news strategy.
  • Collaborate with the Content Manager on potential story ideas and planning on air coverage. 
  • Ensure video detail and news rundown is provided to editors. Ensure any visuals shown are relevant, appropriate and impactful. Make certain all videos are previewed for accuracy.
  • Maintain standards of accuracy and fairness in news coverage.
  • Breaking news is our bread and butter. Newscast Producers are expected to cover breaking news coverage in a smooth, cohesive way. 
  • Work with the production team on best practices and innovating newscasts. 
  • Commands control room by communicating clear vision to directors, reporters and anchors.
  • A competitive passion to win and openness to innovation is mandatory.
  • Must be flexible to cover breaking news or big coverage on any shift, including nights, weekends and holidays. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 

 

 EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE 

 

  • Minimum of one year of experience at a live commercial media outlet. 
  • Degree in Journalism, Communications, Media or similar field preferred. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

 

  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Ability to make quick, strong editorial judgments and a proven ethical foundation.
  • Availability for big breaking news coverage on unassigned shift.  
  • Strong writing skills and news judgment.
  • Exemplary written communication skills using a conversational style.
  • Excellent time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize, multi-task and work under shifting deadlines in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Must be well read on current affairs and have a wide range working knowledge and understanding of general interest subjects.

 

TECHNICAL SKILLS 

 

  • Office Tools: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) or equivalent tools (e.g., Google Workspace), including email and calendar management. 
  • Content Management Systems (CMS): Experience with web publishing platforms to manage and upload digital content. 
  • Broadcast-Specific Software: Experience with newsroom systems such as ENPS or iNews and teleprompter operations. 
  • Research Tools: Ability to use online research tools, databases, and search engines effectively. 
  • Live Streaming: Familiarity with live-streaming platforms and video conferencing tools like Zoom or Teams.

  • Ability to synthesize information from multiple sources for clear, logical reporting. 
  • Sound ethical reasoning to ensure fairness and adherence to journalistic standards. 

Physical Demands 

  • Frequent sitting for extended periods of eight (8) to ten (10) hours per day. 
  • Manual dexterity in operating equipment and computers. 
  • Ability to work irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays. 

Work Environment 

  • Primarily indoors in a newsroom setting. 
  • Frequent exposure to medium or loud noise levels. 
  • A fast-paced, deadline-driven newsroom environment.
