DESCRIPTION
The Rock River Current, an enterprising news startup that covers the Rockford, Illinois, region, is seeking a Content Writer and creator capable of telling stories across multiple forms of media including print, radio broadcast and short-form video.
The candidate will work closely with our news and marketing departments to report stories of community interest and create sponsored content for our advertising partners to showcase exciting information about the region.
The ideal candidate is self-motivated,structured, curious about the community and able to quickly learn about a variety of topics.
Our news coverage runs the gamut from positive stories about local people to the latest economic development and examinations and explanations of the systems at play in our community without focusing on the daily crime, violence or arrest logs. You will be a big part of telling the story of our region.
JOB EXPERIENCE
Qualifications
No experience is necessary, but a background in reporting, content creation or social media marketing is preferred.
REQUIREMENTS
Job duties

Collaborate and Create specialized pieces and features with our marketing department.

Create an average of one short-form video story per week.

Create daily updates on the latest obituaries in the community.

Create weekly stories on things to do in the community.

Occasionally contribute to broadcast news segments with our radio station partners.

Work with an editor to pitch and develop original reporting.

Work flexible hours that may include nights and weekends
