WXIA 11Alive in Atlanta, Georgia is seeking a Production Supervisor to manage the Newscast Directors and Studio Technicians. The Production Supervisor will at times direct live newscasts, taped webcasts, cut-ins, local programs, and commercial projects. Effective interaction and communication with the News department, along with other departments, is critical to success. Strong leadership and organizational skills are a must. The Production Supervisor will serve as the first contact for all News, Marketing, and Sales productions. While reporting to the Head of Technology, the supervisor’s number one client is news. Working closely with the Content Director and News Director on production initiatives such as shot blocking, new workflows, high profile event planning, graphics packages, following up on Director’s reports, etc.
The supervisor is also responsible for bridging the gap between production and engineering. In this role you will partner with engineering to ensure success in carrying out the aforementioned initiatives, and daily operations.
As technical lead it’s the supervisor’s responsibility to ensure the production department has the tools to be successful such as written SOP’s, style sheets, complete switcher backups, mic and ifb inventory.
Responsibilities
• Technical and Team lead for Studio Operations
• DRI (Directly Responsible Individual) for clean productions
• DRI for staffing major news and weather events appropriately.
• Manage multiple initiatives at once, ensuring daily progress is made on each item
• Direct live newscasts, recorded productions, live streams, cut-ins, and commercial projects
• Determining camera angles, lighting, and set arrangement
• Ensure effective interaction between the control room and multiple departments across the organization
• Coordinating with the TEGNA Hub
• Personnel and Studio Scheduling
• Perform employee evaluations
• Work with HR and Head of Technology to rectify personnel issues
• Other assigned duties as needed
Qualified candidates will have proficient skills with the following equipment and systems:
• Control Room automation such as Sony ELC, Ross Overdrive, Grass Valley Ignite;
• Video Switcher, Sony a plus
• Audio mixers
• Studio lighting systems and techniques
• Teleprompters
• Robotic studio cameras
• ChyronHego graphic systems
• Non-Linear editing skills a plus
• Experience with ENPS and Bit Central server systems also a plus.
Requirements
• Proactive self-learning
• Effective leadership and communication during a crisis
• Seven (7) years’ experience in various aspects of television production preferred
• A minimum of five (5) years’ experience directing
• Three (3) years supervisory experience preferred
• Remote multi-camera production experience
• Excellent communication skills, with an emphasis on working as a team with the news department
• Strong leadership and organizational skills
• Personal integrity, accountability, problem solving, a strong work ethic
• Ability to work early mornings, late evenings, weekends and holidays
• Ability to sit and stand for extended periods
• Ability to lift 50 lbs.
• Comfortable working on ladders and lifts
