DESCRIPTION
WXIA is seeking an experienced Multiskilled Journalist to cover and add context around the biggest stories of the day in metro Atlanta and North Georgia. That definitely includes covering breaking news, but we want a reporter who can also look beyond spot news and press releases to pitch enterprise stories that impact our audience. This person must be able to deftly report on public safety issues and solutions, but just as easily cover stories related to traffic, education, and politics, along with stories exploring the explosive growth in the area. This individual will be reporting on air and online, so they must have a passion for creating content with smart and engaging live shots, dynamic and innovative storytelling, and memorable writing.
The successful candidate will be a self-starter who knows how to build relationships and trust. They will also understand the value of connecting in person to tell stories through the voices of our diverse community.
Responsibilities:
• Develop sources to make connections, break news, and craft unique enterprise story ideas
• Investigate leads and tips, conduct interviews, research stories, write, shoot, and edit news stories
• Approach content ideas with a cross-platform strategy – pitching and collaborating with this award-winning team of journalists for how a story lands most effectively on broadcast versus the station website and various social media platforms
• Perform other tasks as required by supervisor
JOB EXPERIENCE
5-7 yrs
REQUIREMENTS
• 5-10 years of experience as a reporter/MSJ
• History of producing strong community-focused, enterprise content for daily newscast
• Strong understanding of the tenets of professional journalism
• Strong writing skills, both for digital and broadcast platforms
• Ability to calmly handle live, breaking news situations and changing events
• Ability research, write, and front creative stories on tight deadlines
• Ability to work mornings, nights, and weekends
Additional Or Preferred Qualifications:
• Bilingual (English and Spanish)
• Bachelor’s degree in journalism or related field.
• Active presence on social media.
