DESCRIPTION
WFAA, TEGNA’s ABC affiliate in Dallas, is seeking a Executive Producer (Digital Video) who loves creating video, analyzing metrics and coaching teammates. We’re looking for a strategic thinker who can design the next iteration of our digital video storytelling strategy on our website, YouTube channel, OTT streaming and mobile apps and social media accounts.
You will help create content plans and manage daily live-streaming plans, develop ongoing video-focused projects, spearhead special project initiatives and execute content flow plans. You will also develop a customized video strategy for each digital platform.
You will curate the “Watch” page on WFAA.com, the WFAA mobile app and the WFAA+ OTT streaming app, as well as WFAA’s YouTube channel, and ensure top-performing articles have relevant video. You will also corral and create unique content for these platforms.
Additionally, you are also a writer with experience in copyediting.
This is the perfect opportunity for a candidate who wants to develop their leadership skills as part of a scrappy digital team. This position reports to the Director of Digital Content.
Responsibilities: Lead and contribute to WFAA’s Digital video growth strategy, including:
• Monitoring metrics, looking for trends and identifying growth opportunities for all WFAA video platforms, including (but not limited to) the website, mobile app, social channels, YouTube and OTT, including 24/7 stream
• Shooting, editing and creating high-quality, digital-friendly video content that can extend to broadcast
• Collaborating with leadership, reporters, producers and photographers across the newsroom to create videos and implement strategies for all digital platforms
• Utilizing available video and platform optimization tools (such as TubeBuddy) to improve digital video content performance through such attributes as thumbnails, tags, playlists and more.
• Managing WFAA live-streaming strategies and execution through VMix and additional digital video tools
• Updating, educating and enforcing video best practices for each WFAA Digital video platform
• Identifying and utilizing existing high-quality video, photos, user-generated content and archives to produce new or supplementary videos for WFAA Digital platforms
• Developing and implementing real-time breaking, short-term and long-term content strategies across WFAA Digital video platforms
• Identifying and crafting engaging video headlines and abstracts that utilize keywords and SEO best practices
• Building a robust WFAA YouTube channel and OTT library that meets growth and audience goals
• Managing WFAA Digital video and photo gear, and running point on operational education of gear and editing software to WFAA Digital team members
• Writing copy for platforms including YouTube, WFAA.com and social media
• Writing articles on occasion, and filling in as a digital content producer and broadcast MSJ when necessary
• Editing and consulting on digital video content from internal and external content partners and ensuring sophisticated distribution through targeted content marketing

REQUIREMENTS
Requirements:
• At least five years of experience working with news video
• Ability to work under tight deadlines, reprioritize time and efforts, and pivot quickly
• At least one year of experience coaching team members on best digital video practices
• Advanced knowledge of non-linear video editing software
• Advanced knowledge of camera gear, including live video hardware and software
• Experienced team player with excellent communication skills
• Experience using audience metrics tools to make smart digital programming decisions
• Knowledge of AP style, as well as best headline writing and SEO practices
• Willingness to work non-traditional hours as needed for news coverage, including nights and weekends
• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications or a similar field
