NEWS CENTER Maine, TEGNA's NBC station in Bangor, Maine has a full-time opening for an Engineering Supervisor in the Bangor Studio Facility.
The Engineering Supervisor supervises the engineering maintenance staff at NEWS CENTER Maine in Bangor. This employee is responsible for the hands-on installation and maintenance of the station’s technical infrastructure. This position requires a solid understanding of electronics, electrical, mechanical, and computer technologies used by NEWS CENTER Maine. The Engineering Supervisor partners closely with the Technology Manager(TM) on design, implementation, and maintenance of technical systems and also with training and workflow issues and improvements. This employee must have strong interpersonal skills and be able to train operating staff to use new and existing equipment to its fullest.
Responsibilities:
• Represents NEWS CENTER Maine in the most positive manner with the public, clients, suppliers and the community we serve. Interacts effectively with a diverse group of staff.
• Handles confidential information with tact and discretion.
• Takes responsibility for installation and maintenance of all technical equipment throughout the organization’s multiple broadcast, online and production facilities. This includes maintenance of network infrastructure, broadcast air chains, production facilities, newsroom computer systems, transmitters, microwave sites, ENG equipment, and other equipment.
• Supervises engineering staff in a manner that ensures maximum productivity and quality, and timely completion of projects. Provides training and mentoring to engineering staff as necessary.
• Assists TM as necessary with evaluation of new technologies and with preparation of capital and operating budgets.
• Communicates and works closely with engineering staff at WLBZ to ensure interdependent systems between WCSH and WLBZ are properly installed and performing.
• Performs other functions as necessary or as assigned.
• Manages and/or supports remote broadcast events.
• Constructively works with other departments to solve problems.
• Maintains personal availability and access for times of emergency and significant technical events.
• Effectively communicates status of problems, progress, and solutions to TM and to others as necessary.
• Ensures that our technical systems infrastructure is adequately documented allowing for the most efficient troubleshooting and maintenance and to be used as a training tool.
JOB EXPERIENCE
REQUIREMENTS
• Engineering, broadcasting, or new media education and/or experience is required. A series of progressively responsible positions in engineering is mandatory.
• Extensive computer and technical skills are essential. This includes a thorough understanding of electronics, electrical/mechanical, broadcast signals, maintenance and repair of electronic and computer systems and networks.
• Candidate must have a solid understanding of software systems used to operate a TV station to produce and deliver content, and a proficiency in Microsoft office applications.
• Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills a must.
• Ability to perform well under pressure. High energy and an ability to quickly understand complex situations and provide effective solutions are needed.
• Physical dexterity and mobility are required needed, to work on, observe, lift and manipulate both large and small technical equipment. Basic abilities to use a computer, visual acuity, ability to talk on telephones, ability to travel to various business locations and willingness to travel on occasions is needed. A demonstrated ability to respond quickly during times of emergencies or breaking news is necessary.
