WBIR-TV, Knoxville's NBC affiliate, is looking for an innovative and creative storyteller. We provide the platform and you tell the stories that have the power to change lives and make our communities stronger.

This Visual Storyteller and Multi-Skilled Journalist role includes some early hours, but it’s with an incredibly flexible and fun team that loves to kickstart East Tennessee’s mornings.

The Visual Storyteller/MSJ will deliver a high standard of news shooting and editing, reporting, research and emotional storytelling while embracing WBIR's "Straight from the Heart" brand.


  • Cover breaking news, shoot live shots and gather video and sound for breaking news
  • Use the latest editing and photography tools to tell great stories
  • Write in an exciting, concise, and authentic manner
  • Accurately deliver on-air news in an engaging way
  • Interview news subjects and research for facts and credibility
  • Develop original content through social listening and independent sources
  • Use creative production techniques such as graphics and new forms of media (viewer pictures, webcam interviews, etc.) to enhance stories
  • Contribute daily story ideas
  • Operate news-gathering vehicle to and from various locations
  • Be available for a rotating weekend on-call responsibility
  • Perform other tasks as required




  • BA/BS in journalism, communications or related field
  • 1-3 years of experience preferred
  • Bilingual, (English & Spanish) speaking desirable
  • Experience with photojournalism, editing and content management systems
  • Strong understanding of the tenets of professional journalism
  • A portfolio with examples of strong breaking news reporting
  • Ability to generate and shoot creative, engaging, content-driven live shots
  • Strong social media skills, including an active presence on Twitter and Facebook
  • Knowledge of ENPS, Edius, and Axis graphics is a plus
  • Organizational skills and the ability to work under constant time-sensitive deadlines
  • Ability to calmly handle live, breaking news situations and changing events
  • Travel: Occasionally: 10-25%
  • Work Environment Set: Office: normally performed in a typical interior/office environment
  • Physical Demands Set: Medium work: Involves standing prolong hours, stooping, bending, lifting/pushing up to 25 lbs.
