There are long days, and you’ll log some miles as we chase our area’s champions. You will work weekends. You will shoot your own stuff. You will anchor on every platform. 

Columbus is a sports town.  Beyond THE Scarlet and Gray, we are the home to professional hockey and 2023 MLS Champions!  Like to cover baseball? We have a Triple-A affiliate, too.  Professional Volleyball – we got it!  Thriving high school sports scene – you bet we do.   There is no shortage of content. 

Football is king in Central Ohio and in the fall every year, it is time to shine.  For 30 years, we have been the only station in town to produce a weekly pre-game and post-game covering the Ohio State Buckeyes.  Fans are extremely passionate about their team, and they tune in every week for the very latest when it comes to the Buckeyes.  The shows are live from the stadium and a studio element with former Buckeyes as analysts. And of course, on Friday nights we cover high school football with a look at some of the biggest games every week in the area.

The ideal candidate will

  • Produces and presents sports reports for all platforms 
  • Interacts with our consumers on social media sites 
  • Writes stories for the website 
  • Embrace and execute teamwork 
  • Ensures that all sports content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality  
  • Writes and delivers sports stories in a clear and concise manner  
  • Assists in writing, copy editing, researching, and coordinating sports programming and other content 
  • Responds to breaking sports events and other urgent newsrooms situations as required 
  • Works closely with the sports team to develop comprehensive sports coverage Participates in promotional activities including public appearance  
  • Writes stories for the website

Requirements and Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism 
  • Comprehensive knowledge of sports and sports related activities   
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written   
  • Superior on-air presence    
  • Experience guiding, directing and motivating others  
  • Proficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners and other office equipment   
  • Ability to meet multiplatform deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.  
  • Valid driver's license with a good driving record   
  • Flexibility to work any shift
