Are you tired of living that 1:30 package life?
12News, the NBC affiliate in Phoenix, is looking for a MMJ who wants to tell stories the way they deserve.
Your work will go across platforms, but on our streaming products first. Because this position hits streaming first, you’ll be able tell stories that have a chance to breathe. And, since you won’t have the demands of making slot daily, you’ll have the time to tell them.
You’ll work in one of the most fascinating states in the country, where culture, geography, economics and politics are constantly colliding with one another. You’ll be based in Phoenix but cover Arizona. Phoenix, by the way, is five hours from the beach and two hours from skiing.
This position has a lot of latitude, so you’ll need to be a self-starter and good at getting stories across the finish line. You should be naturally curious and have spent time in a newsroom as reporter or MMJ. You know that stories have structure and rhythm and the idea of putting a story together without nats is anathema to you. You believe in inventive storytelling and not doing it the way you’ve always done it before. You’re willing to take risks in the stories that you choose and learn from when they don’t work out. You’re a good writer and a better reviser. You want to do stories of all kinds.
If you’ve ever been told “Yeah, I don’t know if that story is really right for this station,” we should probably talk.
