Job Summary:

WNEM, a Gray Television TV station, is recruiting for a Producer. This person creates, coordinates, and writes content on a variety of platforms, including broadcast, web, digital, and social media. The Producer displays creativity, aggressiveness, attention to detail, resourcefulness, and team spirit in the pursuit of excellent content for newscasts, online and social platforms.  The Producer, in coordination with others, assists with the daily flow of news to the newsroom for appropriate coverage both on-air and on the station’s digital platforms. This person gathers meaningful news information from various sources, generates story ideas, checks out credible news tips, schedules news crews and takes in live feeds.  This individual is responsible for publishing content on multiple digital platforms, including mobile, online, and social networks. Successful candidates will have solid news judgment, a sound grasp of broadcast and online journalism and a sense of urgency for breaking news. This is a high-pressure, deadline-focused position, which requires a self-starter, who is flexible and has the ability to multitask.
Essential Job Functions:
Write Scripts for a variety of platforms, including broadcast, web and social media, contribute story ideas, participate in editorial meetings and collaborate with news team. Previews news material before airing and/or posting to the web. Prepares possible interview segments. Coordinates breaking news and executes newscast in the control room. Contributes content to web and multi-media efforts.

Monitors news sources and social media to ensure news is being appropriately covered. Discerning news tips, gathering information and distributing that information to the newsroom, setting up interviews and answering phones.
Conceptualizes innovative graphic and pre-production elements. Monitors and works to constantly improve the look and execution of newscasts.


Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements | All must be met to be considered.


Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism, Communications or a related field, or equivalent training and/or experience.


At least two years working in broadcast media, Social Media, with focus on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Experience using a content management system (CMS) a plus.

Strong editorial skills and working knowledge of AP and Broadcast Style also preferred.


Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Experience using Avid, internet production tools, MS Office, Wide Orbit and I-News strongly preferred.

Ability to work a flexible work schedule and work as a member of a team.

Must possess advanced understanding of newscast presentation and content creation.

Must possess excellent writing and graphics skills with ability to provide an interesting and substantive product.

Must be results oriented.

Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to work in a creative, fast paced environment.

Ability to make quick decisions without losing composure.

Must be able to manage multiple projects and assignments simultaneously.

Previous experience with script writing and editorial experience preferred.

Must possess a valid Driver’s License with a good driving record.

Travel Requirements Approximate 10% Local
