The KXTV/ABC10 Managing Editor position requires excellent news judgement, as well as the ability to think like a producer and understand logistics like an Assignment Editor. The Managing Editor will oversee the editorial assignments of the News department, assisting other news managers and supervising personnel both on-air and behind the scenes to ensure stories meet quality standards and are fair and balanced.


  • Working with the reporters on story content and presentation and working with the assignment desk to determine story selection.
  • This manager will play a key role in determining the direction of the news gathering efforts daily.
  • The successful candidate will demonstrate a proven track record of guiding successful news gathering operations.
  • Strong supervisory skills, effective communication and leadership skills, and a positive, enthusiastic attitude are a must.
  • The position also requires knowledge of broadcast law, a good sense of production and promotion, and experience managing special projects.
  • The Managing Editor will schedule reporters and the Assignment Desk and will work closely with the desk on what types of resources are needed for story production.
  • This manager must also have a thorough understanding of digital analytics and digital publishing techniques in order to help broadcast stories stand out on digital platforms and/or to focus broadcast stories on content that is already doing well online.
  • Will work closely with the Director of Content, Digital Director, Assignment Manager, Executive Producers, Producers and production staff to refine the overall visual style of the newscasts.




  • A minimum of 5 years Managing Editor, Executive Producer or equivalent managerial experience in a major market are required.
  • Candidate must have a degree in journalism or related field, strong ethical standards, and exceptional communication skills. Prior news management experience required. Background in newscast producing, strongly preferred.
  • The position requires an aggressive, highly motivated, organizationally sound news leader with proven team building skills and a winning attitude.
  • The ideal candidate should be a creative self-starter with great writing skills and a clear vision of what makes a newscast relevant, urgent and important.
  • Travel: Rarely: less than 10%
