WUSA9 in Washington, D.C. is looking for an experienced, dynamic and energetic executive producer.

This person must have impeccable news judgment, an eye for creativity and be adept at producing breaking news with impact. This leader will embrace our high-quality standard of news reporting, storytelling and investigative excellence while advancing our content across multiple platforms with urgency.

You are a people person and understand what comes with the demands of working in newsroom that is regularly handling breaking news and required to make tough decisions in a news market that spans two states and the district. Building relationships is your superpower. You have a deep passion for local journalism and making an impact in the communities we serve. This is not an entry-level role. Previous medium-to-large market experience is preferred.


  • Oversee newscasts to make sure they align with the station’s brand and strategic plan
  • Coordinate with WUSA9 managers on short-term and long-term planning & execution
  • Lead a team of producers, writers, digital editors, editors and on-air personalities on daily story selection, execution, writing, and showcasing,
  • Lead breaking news, big coverage and live coverage scenarios
  • Encourage innovation and smart risk-taking
  • Edit and approve scripts for both TV and Digital
  • Use consumer analytics in determining content
  • Give regular feedback to producers, writers and reporters – write and deliver annual performance reviews
  • Must have a vision and develop strategies to ensure ratings success




  • 5+ years experience producing, line producing, or Executive Producing in a medium-to-large market
  • Proven ability to be an idea-generator and innovator
  • Proven ability and experience leading and motivating a team of anchors, reporters, producers, and production staff
  • Proven track record creating multi-platform content for social and digital audiences
  • Ability to lead with empathy while managing and navigating multiple priorities, including breaking news environments
  • A spirit of collaboration across all people and verticals
  • Have a deep understanding of tenets of journalism, journalism ethics and broadcast law.
  • Proven track record of commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • Strong understanding of and demonstration of editorial judgment, journalistic ethics and libel laws.
  • Knowledge of ENPS, Edius, editing and content management systems a plus
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work under tight deadlines
  • Ability to be in weekend on-call manager rotation
  • BA/BS college degree or related experience
  • Travel: Rarely: less than 10%
  • Work Environment Set: Office: normally performed in a typical interior/office environment
