DESCRIPTION

WOI Local 5 News, the TEGNA owned ABC-affiliate in Des Moines, IA is looking for a rockstar journalist to join team as Executive Producer. This person will help us redefine our morning show.

The EP oversees all elements of news programs as well as helps inspire and manage a talented, passionate staff. Our ideal candidate is passionate about showcasing stories in innovative ways and will embrace teaching strong storytelling techniques to young journalists.

The position requires strong editorial judgment, a strategic mindset, and an aggressive approach of creating urgent, exciting, digestible shows. The ideal candidate should have a proven track record of leadership and a propensity for taking on and executing big projects.

We are searching for a true multi-platform producer who creates engaging content on television, on digital and social media, and on emerging platforms. Our team needs a leader who will evolve the show to reach potential viewers across all screens. Familiarity with video and graphics editing, TV news production, and online content management is also required.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead teams in the creation of unique, shareable content
  • Skillfully use social media and digital tools to research, discover and distribute content
  • Encourage innovation, risk-taking and powerful storytelling in crafting great newscasts
  • Inspire enterprise stories and coordinate special coverage with news leadership team
  • Oversee multiple newscasts to ensure the brand promise and strategies are met
  • Regularly critique newscasts with the staff, both as a team and with individual producers
  • Identify daily opportunities to have our news get noticed and reach new audiences
  • Work collaboratively with other managers and perform tasks as required by News Director

REQUIREMENTS

Requirements:

  • A true passion for Journalism and inner-drive to serve the greater good of our community
  • Commitment to innovation and inclusion in storytelling
  • 1-3 years newsroom leadership experience preferred
  • Strong understanding of the tenets of professional journalism
  • Knowledge of ENPS, Edius, photojournalism, editing, and content management systems a plus
  • Organizational skills and the ability to work under constant time-sensitive deadlines
  • BA/BS in journalism, communications or related a plus
  • Travel: Rarely: less than 10%
  • Work Environment Set: Office: normally performed in a typical interior/office environment
  • Physical Demands Set: Sedentary work: Involves sitting most of the time; walking, lifting, bending, standing, etc.
