DESCRIPTION

KING 5 is looking for an experienced, creative, and innovative content leader to lead day-to-day production of the station’s non-news local programs across multiple platforms. The Director of Local Programming will be responsible for delivering live, on-location, and studio-based productions on-time and on-budget and must work well with the sales team to meet revenue goals for New Day Northwest and Evening.

Our ideal candidate is a proven editorial leader with a track record of success leading content teams while managing competing priorities. They have a deep understanding of video or television storytelling and a passion for innovation. The Director of Local Programming will work in partnership with other content department heads to lead station-wide content campaigns and innovate new content ideas. Together, they will lead the content teams in the delivery of engaging and unique content to a multi-platform audience.

Responsibilities:

  • Strategically lead, inspire, and manage Local Programming Department
  • Work closely with sales team on sponsored campaigns and execute in-content revenue opportunities with the goal of meeting in-content revenue targets
  • Lead production of non-news specials including New Year’s at the Needle and other tent pole station content initiatives
  • Lead the Local Programming teams to create unique, engaging, and rich storytelling experiences to grow a loyal audience across all platforms
  • Collaborate with other department heads – including Marketing, News, and Digital – on editorial strategy for content creation and distribution across all platforms
  • Be the voice of innovation in the department and inspire others
  • Develop and implement workflows that deliver content to target audiences across current and future platforms with storytelling that is optimized for each screen
  • Partner with the research and digital teams to use data to inform editorial decisions
  • Recruit and hire top notch content creators for all platforms
  • Teach, coach, and mentor the department’s content creators in best practices for writing and producing content

  • Understanding of broadcast and digital KPI’s
  • Knowledge of ENPS, Adobe Creative Suite, and project management software a plus
  • Travel: Rarely: less than 10%
  • Work Environment Set: Office: normally performed in a typical interior/office environment
  • Physical Demands Set: Sedentary work: Involves sitting most of the time; walking, lifting, bending, standing, etc.
