DESCRIPTION

KTVB, the TEGNA station, located in Boise, ID has an immediate opening for a Chief Photojournalist.  The Chief Photojournalist is responsible for assisting the Director of Strategy and Innovation with developing and promoting a culture of innovative visual content on all screens. The Chief will also assist in long form special projects and documentary style assignments as well as on location special production for community service iniatives and Boise State coverage.

The Chief will also provide input on recruitment, hires, appraisals, and will ensure quality content is tailored for platform and audience engagement. Other responsibilities will include scheduling, equipment tracking, and training for the photojournalist staff as assigned.

Primary responsibilities include:  

  • Responsible for capturing video & audio elements that produce compelling and engaging news, sports, and feature stories in a daily deadline environment
  • Edit stories with Edius and ability to adapt to other editing platforms as needed
  • Provide editorial input and collaboration for stories and daily newscasts
  • Post to social media, edit social videos, and create digital content
  • Manage photographer and editor schedules
  • Track and manage news fleet and gear

JOB EXPERIENCE


REQUIREMENTS

  • College degree or equivalent experience with minimum two years' experience as a TV photojournalist and news editor preferred
  • 3 to 5 years experience in a news room
  • Must promote a culture of innovative storytelling
  • Edit stories with Edius and ability to adapt to other editing platforms as needed
  • Complete newsgathering skills required
  • Must be able to tell the news story creatively with strong audio and visual skills
  • Must be able to make quick decisions while working under pressured deadlines, willingness to work overtime, and work flexible shifts
  • Active member of the National Press Photographers Association (NPPA) preferred
  • Commercial drone license preferred
  • Strong computer skills in a mobile environment required
  • Able to operate ENG van and live remote equipment
  • Familiarity with all distribution platforms including Facebook, YouTube, live streaming, etc.
  • Must have a valid driver's license, able to lift up to 40 lbs and occasionally up to 80 pounds with or without an accommodation
  • Excellent organizational skills required
